As we wrap up post-production, it’s a great time to start showcasing some of our favorite shots from the film.
And there’s none better to kick things off with than sequence 3 shot 1.1! This powerhouse of a shot features the Scarab mecha thundering across the desert ruins, headlights blazing.
During animation production, this was one of the first shots to feature the Scarab running at high speed. We’d always envisioned the Scarab galloping like a horse, but with six legs, that proved to be impossible. The solution ended up being something closer to a centipede, with each leg making small, quick shuffles rather than large bounds.
The anime-style smoke clouds were particularly tricky to pull off in 3D, but hey—a shot like this demands maximum explosiveness.
