This powerhouse of a shot features the Scarab mecha thundering across the desert ruins, headlights blazing.<\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video controls poster=\"https:\/\/the-ottoman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/SOTM_seq3_shot1-1.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/the-ottoman.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/SOTM_seq3_shot1-1.mov\"><\/video><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Shot of the Month: \u201csequence 3, shot 1.1\u201d \u00b7 animator: Mark Medrano.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>During animation production, this was one of the first shots to feature the Scarab running at high speed. We\u2019d always envisioned the Scarab galloping like a horse, but with six legs, that proved to be impossible. The solution ended up being something closer to a centipede, with each leg making small, quick shuffles rather than large bounds.<\/p>\n<p>The anime-style smoke clouds were particularly tricky to pull off in 3D, but hey\u2014a shot like this demands maximum explosiveness.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As we wrap up post-production, it\u2019s a great time to start showcasing some of our favorite shots from the film.
